While exercise swimming in the
pool at the Institute for Wellness
and Sports Medicine in Hattiesburg,
MS, I was struck by the beautiful
scene at the north end of the
pool. On my next visit there
I took my camera and captured
the water, plants, paneled windows
with the blooming tree behind
it. I studied the picture until
I decided I could depict this
in fabric.
I had some beautiful
Mickey Lawler Skydye which was
perfect for the water. The windows
are white fabric with an overlay
of crinkly sheer. The tree behind
the window is a piece of ecru
with Neocolor II pastel “branches” and
some yellow/orange bits of fabric
to depict the flowers. Over all
this I drew the window panels
and stitched over the lines.
The green trees in the large
pots were fused and stitched
on, as were the reflected trees
in the water. Red thread stitching
was added for the blooming bromeliads.
Blue and white flags were attached
at the top but left to hang free.
