When Worlds Collide
34" w x 18" h

Ten leftover blocks from Fish Eyes and The Bugs' Picnic became the background for When Worlds Collide. I joined the ten blocks, added a yellow inner border and a brown outer border and looked at the piece on my design wall for many weeks. The square blocks with sharp diagonal lines seemed to call for circular flowing movement to make the piece complete.

With the help of several sizes of dishes, I cut rings and circles and filmy organza pieces and placed them overlapping the block background. One of the heavenly bodies has Angelina fibers added beneath an organza layer. A piece of fabric purchased in Russia by my friend Carol Vickers found a home in this piece. Decorative machine stitching was added before the piece was layered and quilted. Beading was added in a few places for highlights.
